First distinguish “no plumbing option” from “connected but no water.” Keep an independent safe-water supply while you check the tool, fixture, reservoir and location separately.

Name the failure before rebuilding
If the plumbing action is missing, investigate eligibility and placement. If the action completed but the fixture is dry, investigate supply and delivery. If water arrives but is marked unsafe, investigate fluid safety. Treating all three as “plumbing is broken” can lead you to rebuild a working layout while missing the actual issue.
Record the fixture type, reservoir type, relative floors and tile offsets. A screenshot from an isometric camera can conceal a floor mismatch. Use a simple sketch with the fixture and reservoir labels; it is more useful than saying the barrel looks directly above the sink.
For a missing menu
- Check the exact tool item and your inventory. The older Wiki workflow names a pipe wrench and opens the context menu on the fixture, not the reservoir.
- Read any unavailable-action tooltip. Check whether you are selecting the intended fixture rather than an adjacent object.
- Record the fixture’s location and the game’s indoor or room classification if available. A visually enclosed construction may still need a separate location check.
- In a disposable comparison setup, test the older Wiki layout suggestion: a reservoir one level above, within the neighborhood of the fixture. Start with one fixture and one reservoir.
- Change only one offset or location condition at a time. Keep the original arrangement recorded before moving objects. If it still fails, preserve the patch, mod list and full menu state.

For a dry connected fixture
Inspect the reservoir’s current contents first. A connection cannot deliver a supply that is absent. Then check whether the action on the fixture actually finished and whether your test used the reservoir you intended. Multiple barrels make a first diagnosis harder because you may inspect one source while the fixture is associated with another.
Reduce the test to a single source and a single fixture. If the simple setup works while the full layout fails, add the remaining sources one at a time. This identifies a change to inspect without assuming that every historical barrel arrangement is supported in 42.21.
For water that arrives but is unsafe
Do not label the connection a purification step solely because an older Wiki snapshot describes purified fixture water. Check the fluid information produced by your actual fixture. If it remains unsafe, use a supported purification process and keep your drinking reserve separate. The net result you need is safe water, not just a successful plumbing menu.
This guide leaves exact multi-reservoir priority, purification behavior and a complete accepted-layout matrix pending a current-game check. The workflow helps make that check small and reproducible; it does not claim a tested layout.
