Project Zomboid multiplayer troubleshooting
First identify how the world was started: Host inside the game or a separate dedicated-server program. Invitation permission and dedicated account admission use different paths.
Host must allow you to join
The player hosting the running world checks the exact Steam account in Invite Friends. The joiner cannot grant this permission.
Host must allow you to joinAlready allowed, still blocked
Compare the full versions, actual account and current session. Record whether the same message remains or changes to a different connection failure.
Host must allow you to joinCreate a separate server
Start with a new vanilla test installation. Verify joining and persistence through a clean shutdown before migrating an existing world.

- Host must allow you to join
Fix the Project Zomboid host permission message: check the host’s Invite Friends list, Steam mode, matching builds and dedicated-server access.
- Set up a dedicated server
A source-based Project Zomboid dedicated server checklist: Windows Steam Tools, matching builds, connection and save checks, with optional SteamCMD notes.
