Two upward arrows beside character weight indicate a stronger weight-gain trend, not that your character gained two kilograms or needs two meals. Calories determine whether gain can occur; fats and carbohydrates contribute to the rate. Hunger is separate. Choose whether you need to gain, maintain or lose weight, then change food intake and compare the weight reading over time.
Read the arrows beside body weight
Open the character Info panel (J is the documented default) and find body weight. Do not use the inventory load figure: it measures carried items. In the cited forum explanation, calorie intake first allows weight gain, then nutrients influence its amount and the number of upward arrows. Jumping straight from no arrow to two arrows is not, by itself, proof of a broken interface.
| What you see | Useful interpretation | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Upward arrows | The display is signalling a gain trend. | Continue only if you want to gain weight; compare the actual weight later. |
| Two upward arrows | A stronger gain indication; no universal cutoff is verified here. | You do not need to force a single arrow before weight can rise. |
| Downward arrow | The display is signalling a loss trend. | Change intake if loss is unwanted, then compare later readings. |
| No arrow | No displayed trend at this moment. | Do not interpret this as a guarantee of permanent maintenance. |

A full stomach does not prove enough calories
Hunger and nutrition are separate systems. A meal can relieve hunger without supplying enough energy to maintain weight. Feeling full therefore does not establish that the character is gaining weight.

If you want to gain weight
Packaged food normally displays nutritional values; Nutritionist lets the character see them for other food too. Compare calories, fats and carbohydrates instead of hunger reduction alone. Activity burns calories, and earlier food still contributes over time, so one meal is not a fixed promise of tomorrow’s weight.
- Write down body weight and arrow direction before changing the diet. Keep a short note of the meals and activity you change.
- Inspect available food tooltips. Add a higher-calorie meal with fats or carbohydrates to your normal food supply; use the values visible in your build instead of a remembered food list.
- Keep meeting hunger needs. If you have been relying on low-calorie vegetables or fruit, include food that contributes more energy instead of simply repeating the same filling snack.
- While recovering in safety, reduce unnecessary running, sprinting and strenuous work. Preserve the ability to escape danger.
- After in-game time passes, reopen Info and compare both the arrows and body weight. Continue the adjustment if weight is rising toward your intended range; reassess rather than eating endlessly to chase a particular arrow count.

If two upward arrows are unwanted
- Continue eating when needed, but replace part of the high-calorie intake with lower-calorie food that still relieves hunger. Compare the tooltips of food you actually have.
- Avoid adding extra meals solely because you expect the arrows to disappear instantly. Earlier food still contributes to the trend.
- At a later comparable point in your routine, inspect body weight again. A slowing gain trend is useful; a stable weight over repeated readings is a better maintenance check than a single empty arrow display.
- If weight begins falling farther than intended, add energy back to the diet. Starving the character to remove upward arrows creates a separate problem.

If the indicator and your expectation disagree
The July 2025 report complained that the UI skipped a single upward arrow. The moderator explained why accumulated nutrients can produce two arrows as soon as the calorie gate is passed. Treat that as an explanation of the reported case, not a universal current-build cutoff.
First check that you recorded body weight, that the same character is being compared and that time has actually advanced. If the numerical trend still contradicts the display, record the patch, nutrition sandbox setting, metabolism traits, mods, food and activity. A repeatable observation is more useful than replacing a published threshold with an estimate.

Mechanics are based on the dated wiki and moderator explanation. Meal planning, observation intervals and troubleshooting are editorial workflows rather than measured gain rates. The arrow indicator is a trend cue; this page does not use it to predict an exact daily weight change.
- The Indie Stone forums · Weight gain only shows 2 up arrowsShadowsolon report and moderator Keyeeta replies, 7–8 July 2025; reviewed 8 October 2026. Explains calorie gating and fats/carbohydrates affecting gain and arrow count. The exact patch is not stated in the visible report, and the moderator explicitly expresses uncertainty about the arrow cutoff. No cutoff is published here.
