Do this first

Read the learned planting information for the exact crop, then compare it with when you sowed. Today’s month and the sowing month answer different questions.

Evidence boundary. Older wiki background confirms crop-specific planting information and sandbox controls. Exact 42.21 seasonal penalties, calendar tables and death probabilities remain unverified here.

Check three facts before using a calendar

Write down the crop item, the game date when it was planted and the season information the character has learned. A generic “summer crop” note is too broad to investigate one failed row. If you cannot remember the sowing date, mark it unknown; do not work backward from an assumed universal growth duration.

A calendar can help choose a future planting. It cannot establish the history of an existing plot by itself. Also record the world’s farming settings. A server or custom sandbox can change which restrictions apply, so a vanilla calendar and a modded crop should never silently share the same result.

If the game shows a planting warning

  1. Read and preserve the wording. Distinguish a warning actually shown by the game from a label copied from another guide.
  2. Check whether the warning is for your crop and selected month. Do not substitute the season of a similar-looking vegetable.
  3. For the next planting, choose a window the current interface supports. Keep the initial date beside the trial plot’s observations.
  4. Keep a reserve of food and seeds while that trial runs. Do not rely on an unverified growth-time estimate to bridge a shortage.
  5. If a later failure occurs, compare the whole trial timeline with the original row rather than assuming the warning was the only cause.

Can I fix a poor-season crop with fertilizer?

This site does not establish a current 42.21 fertilizer cure for a seasonal problem. Do not spend supplies on that assumption merely because an older comment says a particular batch survived. Record what the interface reports and check patch-specific evidence before attempting a treatment.

If you want to investigate the claim, use a disposable control world or a small separate planting. Keep crop type, sowing date, water checks and location matched, then change only the treatment. A surviving treated tile and a dead untreated tile are useful observations, but one trial still cannot establish a probability or guarantee.

What this guide leaves out

We do not publish a complete monthly table, a fixed harvest countdown or a “guaranteed death” percentage. Existing crop calendars already provide broad planting reference. The useful task here is checking whether your particular crop, world settings and planting date match the rule you are applying. If one of those is unknown, say so before committing the next field.

Original checking steps are editorial recommendations. This site has not run a game test or inspected a local 42.21 installation. Source review and page update dates describe different work.
